Reach South Africa is a charity committed to supporting the people of the developing world. We are currently working with a number of schools in Africa in the hope of providing education that will have a positive change on the lives of an entire generation.

‘What’s in a name?’
is a project to raise £250,000 to build and run an educational ‘Centre of Excellence’ in the town of Idutywa, South Africa. This will support education of the children in this area and train teachers and support staff to build and run schools across the African Continent.

We want to work in partnerships with people to raise this money. Our objective is to invite organisations to take part in ‘What’s in a name?’ and raise for our charity.

As part of this project we will provide:

Resources for all organisations taking part.
Lesson planning for schools for Yrs 1 to 6, an assembly plan and the basic resources needed to complete the activity.
An overview for Key Stage 3 and 4

So… ‘What’s in a name?’ is a maths based activity that explores money and real life problems. How much would your name cost? My Name is Jeremy and using the ‘cost of name converter’ my name costs 76p (J=10p E=5p R=18p E=5p M=13p Y=25p). If each person who took part in the project donated the cost of their name this would raise money to support ‘our’ work.

This could be further developed with each member of a family donating the cost of their name. Who has the most expensive name? Who has the least expensive name?

I have already donated the cost of my name and have started the ball rolling. I am hoping that many people will take this opportunity to take part in doing so change the lives of a great many people. We hope that you like the idea and will support our project.

PS. If you are interested in taking part in this project or require further information then please follow the 'About Us' link and go to our 'Contact' page.
